FAQs
What is the TAG DER CLUBKULTUR?
The TAG DER CLUBKULTUR (Day of Club Culture) was launched in 2020 by the Clubcommission as an initiative of the Senate Department for Culture and Europe and the Musicboard, and this year it once again honors the diversity of Berlin's club culture and the special commitment of the scene. As part of this initiative, a total of 40 clubs and collectives in the city are awarded a prize of 10,000 euros each.
How can clubs and collectives participate?
All Berlin clubs and collectives can apply for the award as part of the TAG DER CLUBKULTUR. This year's award focuses on two main themes: Roots & Spaces - Origins & Spaces of Berlin Club Culture. Submission is possible online in the period from 1 - 15 August.
What are the dates and deadlines?
1. August: Applications open
15. August: Applications close
Mid September: Award ceremony
03 - 09 October: TAG DER CLUBKULTUR
Do we have to address both thematic focuses in our application?
Both topics are part of the application. However, you can answer one of the two topics in more detail and thus set your own focus.
How are clubs and collectives awarded?
The prizes awarded during the TAG DER CLUBKULTUR are decided by an independent five-member board of trustees representing the diversity of the Berlin club scene. This year the Board of Trustees consists of Christine Kakaire, Lilia van Beukering, Nico Adomako and Prince Emrah. The 5th member will be announced soon. Overarching criteria will again be used in the consideration of submissions this year. These include applicants’ artistic and programmatic profile, the significance of the club or collective for Berlin club culture, awareness, diversity and anti-discrimination, ecological sustainability, promotion of young talent, contribution to international dialogue, and solidarity with workers and other cultural actors.
What are the program criteria for events during TAG DER CLUBKULTUR
The Board of Trustees attaches particular importance to diversity and equality in booking, as well as to fair remuneration and support for local artists. No headliners are to be flown in for the TAG DER CLUBKULTUR, but rather residencies and the local (club) cultural scene are to be strengthened. Therefore, interdisciplinary and intersectional programming, diverse lineups demonstrating gender parity, sustainable hygiene and security concepts, plus a brief overview of proposed fees for participating artists are all particularly desired. (see Conditions of Participation)
Do we need a firm commitment for a location when submitting our application?
We do not expect a firm commitment. However, a concept also includes a location. Therefore, ask yourself beforehand what you want to do and how you want to set up. If you have serious problems finding a location, please contact us.
In case we already book a venue for the TAG DER CLUBKULTUR event - will this be taken into account for the timings?
Of course! It is our goal to fill a whole week with events but we will definitely do everything we can to take your availabilities, bookings and scheduled dates into account.
Is the event for TAG DER CLUBKULTUR supposed to take place the entire time from October 3-9?
This is up to you. Your event can take place on one of these days but it’s also possible to organize an event that takes place on different dates, that runs longer than one day or even covers the whole week.
Can two collectives apply together?
Yes, you can. Although this means you also have to split the prize many in case of being awarded. In your application, please make clear why it is that you apply together. Professional and artistic connections between your collectives, a shared history of events or common values may help the board of trustees to understand your combined application better.
What is the composition of the Board of Trustees?
The Board of Trustees for the DAY OF CLUB CULTURE consists of five people representing diverse voices of club culture. The members of the Board of Trustees are:
Christine Kakaire (she/her) Cultural journalist, moderator, member of the editorial team of the "CTM - Festival for Adventurous Music" in Berlin, lecturer for cultural theory and popular music at the BIMM Institute, head of the Black Creativity Database

What about collectives that do not have a legal form yet?
First and foremost, we must be able to understand that you have been active for at least one year. We must also be able to see who is part of your collective, what activities you have implemented, and what you have planned for the future. The legal form is secondary.
Is a budget plan for the event of the DAY OF CLUB CULTURE part of the submission?
A budget plan is not mandatory, but it will help the Board of Trustees to better understand your approaches. Nevertheless, the budget plan will not be included in the jury's decision. Decisions are and will remain based on curatorial and artistic principles.
In case of an award, what does it mean to be part of the communication and documentation around the TAG DER CLUBKULTUR?
We will present all awarded collectives and clubs as well as their planned events on the communication channels of TAG DER CLUBKULTUR (website, Instagram, Facebook, newsletter). In addition, we will commission photographers to visit your event, and we also ask you to document your event with photos. If you receive an award, we will inform you in detail about what we need from you in terms of text and images.
What can the award be used for?
The prize funding is available for unrestricted use, and no proof of use is required. One possibility, for example, would be to use the money for your own contribution to possible future funding programs.
Does the prize money have to be used to finance the event on TAG DER CLUBKULTUR?
No, the prize money is not earmarked. You can use it as you wish.
What hygiene rules must be observed?
Currently, no special hygiene rules apply related to the corona pandemic. However, this situation may change. Therefore, you should plan as well as possible in your event planning that we are threatened by a new wave in the fall. We will inform you about important changes in infection control measures if necessary.
Should the event for TAG DER CLUBKULTUR relate to the main topics of this year's announcement?
The theme or orientation of your event is up to you.
Can I organize a demonstration during TAG DER CLUBKULTUR?
Demonstrations may not be financed by public funds. You are of course allowed to plan a demo within the framework of the TAG DER CLUBKULTUR, but in this case must prove that the prize money will not be used for financing this activity.
When should my event take place?
While in the past two years all events have been held on October 3, this year we have decided to make DAY OF CLUB CULTURE a full week long, from October 3-9. We encourage you to use the entire period so that all events get enough space and attention. Events can be held on one or more days within the TAG DER CLUBKULTUR week of October 3-9, 2022. We will develop the schedule together with all the honorees, taking your availability into account.
Can we charge admission?
You can offer free admission to your event or sell presale and box office tickets (Vorverkauf/Abendkasse). Please be sure to price tickets for your event according to the format in order to allow access to as many people as possible. Your door and admission policies, as well as the event ticketing system (if needed for your event), are up to you to decide. The number of tickets will be based on the capacity of your venue.
What if my event for the DAY OF CLUB CULTURE cannot take place as planned?
If the planned event cannot take place due to unforeseen circumstances, this will not affect your award; it will still be granted.
